Curved Glass: Production Techniques
To bend glass, a thermal process must be initiated in which the material is heated to its softening point.
The ovens must reach around 700°C, allowing the glass to gradually heat until it reaches a plastic-like consistency.
Once softened, the glass naturally conforms to a pre-formed mold under the force of gravity, taking its shape—this is when true glass curvature is born.
A critical step follows: the cooling or annealing process, which ensures the creation of safe, durable glass.
During bending, the glass accumulates internal stress; to eliminate these, the model undergoes an extended cooling phase.
It is essential that this process is carried out as slowly as possible, to avoid introducing further stress into the glass.
This crucial stage makes curved glass furniture extremely solid and durable.
A slow cooling process guarantees high safety standards for curved glass.
For some models, an additional annealing process is performed to further enhance glass quality.
Undergoing the bending and annealing process twice ensures a tension-free, safe, and highly resistant final product.
