Mariano Fortuny

(Granada, 11  maggio 1871 – Venice, 3 maggio 1949) was a Spanish painter, stylist and set designer naturalized as Italian citizen.
Fortuny was a son of artists: his father was Marià Fortuny, a Spanish printer, while his mother, Cecilia de Madrazo, came from an artistic family.
In 1889, the family moved to Venice and Fortuny set up his laboratory in the old building Pesaro Orfei.
Fortuny devoted himself to the painting, the engraving, the scenography, the lighting technique and the applied arts.
Fortunity is the founder of the company Tessuti artistici Fortuny.
Fortuny died at the age of 78 in his Venetian building. Later the widow, Henriette Negrin, gave the building to the city of Venice.
